A record of the day’s events. Her challenges, her triumphs, as doggedly recorded by Chris Maggio & Ernesto Morales:

Good people,

I’m excited to announce an event that combines all my favorite topics: geography, urbanity, solidarity, and sports. The Boston Torch Relay is simple. A bunch of runners pass a torch from one side of the city to the other and through many (though not all) of its neighborhoods. Each member of the relay runs as far or as short as they wish – from 2 blocks to 2 miles – starting in Dorchester and ending in Somerville. This is not a race; it’s a relay, and others besides the torch-carriers are more than welcome to run with them.

A part of this event is a tour of some of the creative collaborative spaces in metro Boston (many of which have opened recently), and it is a collaboration between them. Ideally, each of the locations will be a place for spectators, and for torch-handoff.

The Boston Torch Relay will begin at the Howard Art Project and end at Arc-En-Ciel, with some sort of lighting ceremony and party.

You can participate by:

  • Running a leg – look at the route below, then email me with roughly the stretch you’d like to run; rep your neighborhood!
  • Being a spectator – either from a point on the route, or at the finish line, where we hope to have a live feed of the whole shebang!
